I’ve been a math and science teacher at Dayton High School since 1992, have coached middle school track for eleven years, and have recently begun coaching high school cross country.
I grew up in Richland, Washington as the seventh (and almost the shortest!) of eight children. My parents still live in Richland and my siblings are scattered throughout the west, with one ‘outlier’ in Boston. I am married to Rosy (a counselor with the school district) and have two children. Marshall is in the seventh grade and Annemarie is a junior here at DHS.
My hobbies include distance running and racing, cycling on- and off-road, rock-climbing and the occasional triathlon. I also sing, play the guitar, tinker with computers and collect heteronyms (look it up!). Around the house, I enjoy just enough carpentry to get myself in over my head.
I’ve been working with teens, both a volunteer and as a professional, since 1982 when I started as a Young Life leader in Moscow, Idaho. Since then I’ve continued to be a Young Life leader, have been on the staff of a small church, have lead high schoolers on mountaineering trips in B.C. for two summers and have gone to approximately 5.2 kabillion camps.
I am distinctly and unashamedly a Christian in the Protestant tradition. This
describes my worldview, it does not set the bounds of my fellowship nor friendship.
I am known to be a person who enjoys life and finds humor in just about anything.
