Dayton Standards of Practice
August 24, 2004
Commitment to Students: As a staff,
each one of us is committed to the success of our students reaching
the state standards.
Project-Based Learning: the teacher's
job is to facilitate learning and coach the learner; the student's
job is to do the work.
We are committed to project-based learning. We will incorporate project-based
learning into each course and staff members will be supported
by training and collaborative efforts.
Reading: As a staff we will become
more effective teachers of reading in all content areas. We will
expand students' reading
skill by utilizing textbooks, primary sources, and/or other complex
reading materials.
Advisories: In order to instill a
sense of belonging in our learning community, we believe building
and maintaining personal
relationships with a caring and concerned adult is important for
each student. As a way of accomplishing this, we will provide an
advisory
program. The program goals will be community and advocacy.
Reflective Practice: We will regularly
and intentionally reflect on our instructional practice. That reflection,
along with
our decisions, will be based upon a wide variety of data.
