How They Formed:

There is hot melted rock in the center of the earth. This rock is under lots of pressure.Sometimes there are weak points in the earths crust that the molten rock finds and breaks through. When the rock reaches the surface it is referred to as lava.

Different Types of Volcanoes:

Shield: A shield volcano has broad base and a slight slope. They are made from very runny basaltic lava.

Cinder Cones: Cinder Cones are very steep and relatively small for volcanoes. The longer the eruption lasts the bigger the volcano will be. Cinder Cones are found mostly in groups, sometimes you can find them alone. Cinder Cones only have one vent. They are the most common type of volcano.

Composite: Composite volcanoes are made up of a alternating lava and rock layers. Between eruptions composite volcanoes seem to be extinct. These volcanoes erupt in an explosive way caused by viscous magma. An example of a composite volcano is Mount Rainier. Another name for a composite volcanoes is Strato Volcanoes.
