Federal Consumer Protection Agencies

There are different kinds of actions the federal government can take to protect consumers. The Consumer Prodcut Safety Commission has the right to remove unsafe products already in the market place. The Department of Agriculture grades foods such as meats and gives them grade levels, labels that indicate levels of quality, to help consumers judge the product. The Food and Drug Adimistration establishes and maintains purity and safety stadards for foods, drugs, and cosmetics. The ways the agencies enforce consumer protection differ from one agencey to the next. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may require automobile manufactures to recall, or take back and fix, automobiles with dangerous defects.
