There are many rights as a consumer in the business world. You have the right to be informed. Like before deciding which products and services to buy, consumers need information. You have the right to choose what you buy. Because the United States has a market economy, you are able to choose from a wide variety of goods and services produced throughout the world. You can pretty much buy anything in the whole United States as long as it is not something illegal. Also, you have the right to safety. You have the right to buy products that are safe to use. Like in the making of toys, manufacturers make sure that the item will not harm consumers. Consumers also have the right to be heard. Pretend you buy a new bike helmet. You have the helmet for two weeks and you notice that the strap under your chin becomes loose at the place where the strap is connected to the helmet. If you let the store know that you are unhappy with this, that gives the store time to fix the situation and make the bike helmet better. Some ways that businesses lure consumers in are by putting items on sale and using the bait and switch. If you do not know what the bait and switch is, you should check out our chapter terms page. Consumers also have the right to have problems corrected. Sometimes if your purchase has a defect in it, you can take that item back and your receipt, and they will give you a brand new one. And the very last one, Consumers have the right to consumer education. Consumers have the right to learn how our market system works. Consumers should be able to get the best value and the greatest satisfaction from the goods and services they purchase. |
