Today is our fourth day in Internship class and I am very excited. I am looking forward to making more connections out in the community since I just moved here last summer. I have many references in Baker, but don't really know anyone in Dayton yet. I am worried about my computer skills though, because I haven't taken a rigorous course in computers since middle school and somewhat behind my classmates in this area.

I have now been to my internship twice and have found my experience so far to be very enjoyable. I have observed the dental hygienists at work and am looking forward to maybe one day observing Dr. Passmore. I am beginning to learn about the different tools and how to spot tartar on an x-ray. I really need to learn the different teeth so I can better understand the terms that are used. The great thing about this opportunity to intern in the community is that I can get a feel of the medical environment before I go to school for it. For the past year, I have been unable to choose between pursuing nursing or dental hygiene. I am still unable to make a decision, but now know what a career in the dental field would actually be like. I look forward to the months to come and hope I can learn as much as possible from this experience.

I have now been in my internship for a month and am really starting to feel at home. The major fields that I have been considering going into are nursing and dental hygiene. Now that I have a feel for what the dental field is like, I really think that I will pursue that after high school. I've spent a lot of time observing the dental hygeniest at work and see what she does every day. Also, I help the dental assistants every once in a while and get a little hands-on experience. One of the best parts about my interships is being able to question the physician. I can ask him anything related to the dental field and he is more than happy to offer me all the advice and information that he can. I am learning a lot and hope that it continues to be this way.

I very much enjoyed the talk I had with Dr. Passmore at our first Power Donut Break. What I was able to get from him was an understanding o the dental field. He is my mentor and has a lot of information to share and is very willing to share it. He gave me a few new ideas of colleges that I might potentially attend. He also informed the group of most of the prerequisites needed to get into dental school. I really appreciate Dr. Passmore for taking time our of his very busy schedule to inform our class of his profession. I am looking forward to meeting the next set of mentors.
