Coffee Talk
Coffee talk is about getting to know the workings of the organization you are interning at better and also getting to know your mentor. To do this, I will give my mentor a coffee mug as a sign of good will before asking a series of questions. The questions range from things such as: why did you choose to work here to what other advice do you have for me.

1. Please tell me a little about yourself.

I have 8 kids and a wife, along with 2 birds, 3 dogs, and 4 cats. I am structured, yet a frustrated filmmaker.

2. What is a typical day like for you?

A typical day is like organized chaos... challenging. As a producer I research content ideas, which mostly consists of surfing the internet, but also writing proposals, etc., gor funding.

3. What skills and training are necesssary for your posittion?

One has to have the ability to tell a story, a good eye, for setting up a shot, and a good ear, for audio. One also has to have the ability to know when to call it a day and knowing your limits is also important.

4. How did you aquire these skills? Through school? On the job?

A little bit of both. I took a 6 week class at the Los Angeles Film School and through experience.

5. What qualifications do employees neeed to be successful here?

One has to have the ability to put up with me, and, also, a willingness to learn and learn filmmaking.

6. Do you consider a career in this area satisfying? In what way?

Yes, the satisfaction comes from seeing the enjoyment on a 3rd party's face after they watch a completed project. Though, I find it frustrating when people want work but don't want to pay.

7. How important is getting along with other in this career?

Extremly important, because things need to run smoothly with a good working environment in order to produce the best project. Filmmaking contains many aspects from finding funding, to lighting, to camera work, so networking is very important.

8. What other personality traits, skills, or knowledge is important here?

One needs to have a willingness to work with others and the ability to, not only, take constructive critizism, but to give it as well. The ability to think on one's feet and solve problems quickly are also a necessity.
