1. Please tell me a little bit about yourself My name is Charles Williams and I am 32 years old. I have lived in Dayton for about a year. I have worked in physical therapy for a total of 7 years. I have a wife who is pregnant. I also own two dogs. 2. What is a typical day like for you at work? We have around 10-16 patients a day and we work about 8-11 hours a day. 3. What are your main responsibilities? I am responsible for the department and for the care of the patients. I evaluate, assess, set goals, and establish a plan of care for the patients. 4. Tell me about this organizations It is a section in the hospital. We have four people that work in the physical therapy department. We deal with a variety of patients. 5. How is this organization structured? It is a department within the hospital. We have a PT’s assistants, an office manager, and physical therapists. 6. What is the purpose of this organization? The purpose is to provide the general benefit and health of the community with the primary focus of movement and other dysfunctions. 7. How long have you worked here? I have worked in Dayton about a year. 8. Why did you choose to work here? It was an opportunity to develop and help give rise to a community based rehab department. It was an opportunity to learn a broader range of skills. I also could move into management. 9. What skills and training are necessary for your position? I had to get my masters degree in physical therapy. I had to acquire a license by taking a national license exam. Skills I need are good personality traits such as being caring, empathetic, quick thinking, adaptable, and analytical. 10. How did you acquire these skills? Through school? On the job? Both. Problem solving base learning. “Thinking on your feet” 11. What qualifications do employees need to be successful here? You need to have good personality traits, be adaptable, be self motivated, have the ability to think on your feet. 12. Do you consider a career in this area satisfying? In what ways? I do consider it satisfying because there is a challenge in every case. You are constantly learning new things. You are helping and improving others. You never know everything, you are always learning something new. 13. Do you find there are additional awards beyond money in this career? Same as above question. 14. How important is getting along with others in this career? It is very important because you are constantly interacting with community, physicians, and co-workers. 15. What other personality traits, skills, or knowledge are important here? The ability to be able to think on your feet, understanding other patients, and be self motivated to constantly improve and learn, or else you get worse. 16. What advice do you have about working here? You have got to enjoy what you are doing. Make sure you are the type of person that would want to work in this type of environment. 17. What other advice do you have for me? Always try to learn more. 18. What questions have I not asked? You are always going to be challenged by the diversity of your patients. You have to be willing to adapt. You also have to remember that you do not know everything. |
