Why Jehovah’s Wittnesses Don’t Celebrate Christmas

You may have wondered or are wondering why Jehovah’s witnesses don’t celebrate Christmas and other holidays or birthdays. If you feel sorry for Jehovah’s witnesses, don’t. What we chose to do/celebrate is based on our bible-based beliefs. The reason you shouldn’t feel sorry for us is because what we chose to do or not do is what we feel is right, and we seriously don’t want to celebrate Christmas or other holidays. If you are wondering, all 6 million Jehovah’s witnesses around the world all have the exact same beliefs. Many of you may think that it is weird that we don’t want to get lots of gifts, but trust me, we are perfectly happy and we stand firm in what we believe in. We already get lots of gifts anyway.

If you want to know more about what Jehovahs Wittnesses beliefs, just ask any Jehovahs Witness and we will happily answer your questions.

Yours truly,
Shania Kilmer
I’m a Jehovah’s Witness

Shania was a 5th grader at Dayton Elementary School in Dayton, Washington when she wrote this. I have known her since she was a student in my kindergarten class. In kindergarten, special holidays are a big part of our lives and I made some special accommodations for Shania and another classmate who was a Jehovahs Witness as well. While Shania was strong in her faith and was at ease doing a different assignment or leaving the room during a birthday party, her classmates somehow always felt sorry for her. I tried to explain to them that Shania was happy with who she was and she would feel bad if she knew they worried about her.

I asked Shania to try to explain to her current classmates why they should not feel sorry for her and her response is above.
