Snow Men and Snowflakes Abound
In the Preschool Classroom

December is a great month to celebrate the wonder of snow. We have been singing, talking and reading about snowflakes, snowmen and winter weather during pre-school class.
This is a great time of year to spend with your child outdoors building snowmen. For the younger ones you can talk about and have them show you where the arms, legs, feet, eyes, etc. should go. For the older ones you can talk about different sizes of the body parts comparing the smaller and larger.

It is a good time to work on those skills of getting our own coats, mittens, boots, etc. on.
It is also fun to build language development by talking about categorizing (talk about things that are cold (snow, ice cream and milk are cold) – and things that are hot (hot chocolate, soup, the inside the house, the fireplace).

Build your child’s vocabulary by using many names to describe the weather (It is chilly, freezing, cold, cool, brisk, etc.) (Or your coat makes you feel warm, hot or toasty).
Most of all – just have fun and laugh and play with your child. Celebrate the wonder
of the season.

Reminder: Christmas Vacation Begins Dec. 21st!
See you in Preschool on Jan. 2nd!

CHILDREN LOVE TO HELP PREPARE FOR THE HOLIDAYS

We have been working on many fine motor skills this month. Your child(ren) can practice these skills at home by writing their own name on Christmas cards (for those still struggling just use a highlighter and let them trace over their name). Consider letting them write their names on gift tags for gifts they are giving. It is always fun to practice making straight lines on sugar cookies they decorate or painting sugar cookies with very thin frosting.

Consider letting your child sit with you while you wrap gifts for others. They could help you cut small pieces of paper or ribbon to practice their cutting skills.
